This Privacy Policy applies to (i) any and all of the websites offered in connection with Killmaiden’s Compendium of Uncommon Occurrences and author
James A. Shapiro (the “Killmaiden’s Website”), and (ii) any applications hosted by the Killmaiden’s Website.
We are committed to respecting the privacy of visitors to the Killmaiden’s Website. We have created this Privacy Policy to describe how we collect, use, and share information gathered from our online visitors who visit the Killmaiden’s Website.
- Collecting Personal Information from Killmaiden’s Website Users
You decide whether you want to provide any personal information through the Killmaiden’s Website. The only way we will collect your personal information is if you provide it to us through the “Contact Us” form on the Killmaiden’s Website. In the event that you are 13 years old or under, you will be required to obtain parental consent in order to provide us with your name, address, email address or upload any information (e.g., photos of your adventurous family vacation).
- Collecting Other Information
The Killmaiden’s Website uses a technology called "cookies" so that we can better serve visitors when they come to our website, or participate in various activities posted on the site. A cookie is a bit of text that is placed on a user's computer hard drive when certain websites are visited. These cookies may be placed by us or by third party vendors and are used to obtain data such as what web pages or advertisements a visitor views, or if they are reading the free chapters we have provided.
You can set your browser to provide notice whenever a cookie is received, which gives you the opportunity to decide whether to accept it or not.
We do not collect the IP address of the computer you are using or any geo-location data if you are accessing the Killmaiden’s Website through a tablet or mobile phone.
We, or our service providers on our behalf, may collect information about your "clickstream" during your visit to the Killmaiden’s Website. This clickstream data contains the pages you visited, the length of each visit, and the navigational paths you took. We track clickstream data inside the Killmaiden’s Website, from the sites you visited before entering the Killmaiden’s Website, and the site you visit after leaving it. We may also share clickstream data with our third party service providers operating on our behalf in an aggregate or otherwise anonymous format.
- How We Use Personal Information
Personal information we collect through the Killmaiden’s Website will be used (a) for internal analytical purposes; (b) to contact you only if you have requested that we do so; or (c) otherwise as required by law.
Personal information we collect through the Killmaiden’s Website may be used by us to provide information regarding products and services and upcoming events we believe you might find of interest. We also may use the personal information you provide for our internal purposes, such as administration and operation of the Killmaiden’s Website, data analytics, and compliance with our legal obligations, policies and procedures.
- Sharing Personal Information
We do not, and will not, sell or rent your personal information under any circumstances. Not now, not ever.
We will not share or otherwise disclose personal information about you, except as described here, where required by law, or with your express prior consent. We may share your personal information with third parties that perform services for us or on our behalf (for example, web designers, analytics providers, or IT people). Service providers and suppliers are required to keep confidential and secure the personal information received from us and may not use it for any purpose other than in furtherance of the purposes of the Killmaiden’s Website. We also may disclose personal information when, in our judgment, we believe it is necessary or appropriate to prevent fraud, injury, or harm to persons or property, to protect our rights or the rights of others, or as otherwise required by applicable law, regulation or legal process. At any time, you may withdraw your consent to us using your personal information by contacting us. If you do, we will delete your personal information from the servers we utilize.
- Protecting Personal Information
We, or our service providers, maintain administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect against loss, misuse or unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction of personal information you provide to the Killmaiden’s Website.
- Visiting Other Websites
This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected with your consent, as set forth here, during your use of the Killmaiden’s Website and it alone controls how that information is collected, used and disclosed, subject to applicable law and regulation.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of other websites. We encourage you to be aware of the privacy statements of each and every website with which you may interact. If you link to another website from the Killmaiden’s Website, information collected while on the third party website will be subject to that website’s privacy policy.
- Our Right to Change this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated periodically if we change our offerings to our visitors. We will not use your personal information in ways that differ from this Privacy Policy without prior notice to you and an opportunity for you to opt out, and in no event will we use your personal information in ways prohibited by law. If we make a material change to our Privacy Policy, we will let you know either by posting the new information or sending you an email describing any such material changes, and give you an opportunity to decide whether you agree to any new uses of information we have already collected. We will also indicate at the top of the Privacy Policy posted on the Killmaiden’s Website when it was most recently updated.
- Dispute Resolution
If you have questions, comments or complaints regarding this Privacy Policy or our privacy practices, please contact us.
- Child Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”)
If you are a parent of a child 13 years old or under, and that child has visited our site and wants to provide us with information (for example, to join a fan club, receive email updates of discounts or book signings, or upload a photo of the family adventure vacation), you may review the personal information your child wishes to provide us, ask to have it deleted and refuse to allow any further collection or use of your child's information. You also have the option to agree to our use of the information without consenting to the disclosure of the information to third parties (which we don’t do anyway, except for our IT service providers). We provide an email notice to you concerning your approvals and options whenever your child wants to provide us with information.
